Funds Raised Through the Komen Greater St. Louis Race Benefit Local Breast Health Programs and Global Breast Cancer Research

ST. LOUIS – May 11, 2016 – Give strength to the local fight against breast cancer by participating in or donating to the 18^th Annual Susan G. Komen Greater St. Louis Race for the Cure®. The fundraiser takes place on Saturday morning, June 11, in downtown St. Louis. Register online at www.komenmissouri.org/STLRace.

The Komen Greater St. Louis Race for the Cure is Komen Missouri’s signature fundraising event. The Komen Greater St. Louis Race raises funds for the local fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivors and thrivers and honors those who have lost their lives to the disease.

Each registered participant’s 2016 Komen Greater St. Louis Race Bib will serve as the participant’s admission to the Race course and Sponsors’ Row on June 11.

St. Louis Cardinals Second Baseman Kolten Wong and his wife Alissa are Honorary Co-Chairs of the 2016 Komen Greater St. Louis Race. Alissa Wong’s aunt and grandmother are breast cancer survivors.

“Kolten and I are extremely honored to be this year’s Honorary Co-Chairs,” said Alissa Wong. “The opportunity to give back to the community of St. Louis and those who are battling breast cancer is extremely humbling. Our hope is that this year’s Race gives those who are battling breast cancer or celebrating life as a breast cancer survivor the comfort in knowing that the St. Louis Cardinals as well as the St. Louis community are cheering for them along the way.”

The Komen Greater St. Louis Race for the Cure supports Komen Missouri’s year-round mission of saving lives and ending breast cancer forever. The support of the community is vital to the continued local impact of the Race.

Since 1999, Komen Missouri has invested more $40 million, raised through year-round events such as the annual Komen Greater St. Louis Race, in lifesaving, local breast health programs and global breast cancer research.

The funds raised at the Komen Greater St. Louis Race will directly impact the breast health needs of local women, men and families. Seventy-five percent of the net funds raised by Komen Missouri stays in the local community to fund lifesaving breast cancer screening, breast health education and patient support programs. The remaining 25 percent funds cutting-edge, global breast cancer research.
