Komen Missouri board names new executive director to lead affiliate

Funds raised through the Komen Greater St. Louis race benefits local breast health programs and global breast cancer research

ST. LOUIS, MO – Jan. 4, 2018 – Susan G. Komen Missouri announced today that its board of directors named Suzanne Fontaine as the organization’s next executive director. Fontaine, formerly the director of events and marketing for St. Louis Children’s Hospital Foundation, fills the vacancy created by Helen Chesnut’s departure in December 2017. Fontaine assumes the executive director responsibilities immediately.

“We are pleased to announce Suzanne’s addition to our team,” says Renee Hall, Komen Missouri’s board president. “Suzanne will bring leadership and creativity to Komen Missouri’s mission to fight breast cancer in our 38-county Missouri/Illinois service area by funding local programs that support those in the fight to save lives and educating individuals about breast cancer risk factors, the importance of early detection and the resources that are available to them.”

In her previous roles, Fontaine established herself as a proven leader in building community partnership opportunities. At St. Louis Children’s Hospital, she and her team raised more than $3.5 million in charitable contributions annually.

“It is an honor to take on this role as Komen Missouri celebrates its 20th year of making a difference in the lives of women in our region,” said Fontaine. “As a 13-year survivor of breast cancer, I’m emotionally committed to Susan G. Komen, and I look forward to bringing innovative ideas to support the mission and great work Komen Missouri does in fighting breast cancer.”

Fontaine earned her master of arts in communication from the University of Missouri-Columbia and her bachelor of arts in communication from the University of Tulsa.
