Susan G. Komen® Missouri Invests More Than $1.3 Million in Local Breast Health Programs and Global Breast Cancer Research 2016-2017 Komen Missouri Community Grants Will Help Thousands of Local Women and Men ST. LOUIS – May 2, 2016 – Susan G. Komen® Missouri has awarded more than $1.3 million to fund local breast health programs and global breast cancer research for 2016-2017. This includes community grants to seven local programs, which will provide thousands of women and men in our community with life-saving breast cancer screening, breast health education and patient navigation and support services throughout the next year. “Komen Missouri’s community grant funding helps uninsured, low income and underserved individuals in our region gain access to quality breast health services,” said Helen Chesnut, executive director of Susan G. Komen Missouri. “We are proud to partner with local programs that deliver these life-saving services. We thank all who support Komen Missouri’s mission of saving lives and ending breast cancer forever, and all who help make this funding possible.” Komen Missouri’s 2016-2017 community grant recipients were officially announced at the 7th Annual Impact Luncheon, presented by Dowd Bennett LLP, on May 1. Since 1999, Komen Missouri has invested $40 million in the fight against breast cancer. More than $30 million has funded local, life-saving breast health and breast cancer programs. More than $9 million raised here has funded cutting-edge, global breast cancer research. Komen Missouri raises funds through the efforts of Komen Missouri supporters participating in fundraising and special events throughout the year, including the Susan G. Komen Greater St. Louis Race for the Cure® and the Mid-Missouri Race for the Cure®. The 18th Annual Komen Greater St. Louis Race for the Cure is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, in downtown St. Louis. Register for the Race at www.komenmissouri.org/STLRace. Seventy-five percent of the net funds raised by Komen Missouri stays in the community to fund life-saving, local breast cancer screening, breast health education and patient navigation and support programs for those who may not otherwise have access. The remaining 25 percent funds global breast cancer research. The following programs have been selected for 2016-2017 Komen Missouri funding by an independent grant review panel through a competitive application and rigorous review process.
