St. Louis Affiliate Of Susan G. Komen For The Cure® Now Accepting Grant Applications For 2010 Grant Cycle

St. Louis - October 7, 2009 The St. Louis Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the CureŽ is currently seeking grant applications for the upcoming grant awards cycle which runs from April 1, 2010 through March 31, 2011.  All grant applications are due by December 7, 2009.

“The Komen St. Louis Affiliate, in its 11-year history, has granted more than $11 million to help close the gaps in breast health care in our 17-county service area,” said Helen Chesnut, Executive Director of the Komen St. Louis Affiliate.  “This is the time when the agencies in need of funding can come forward, apply for a Komen-funded grant and make a difference in the local fight against breast cancer.”

Grant applications will be accepted from U.S. nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, educational institutions, and Indian Tribes while the Affiliate only provides funding to projects that are specific to breast health and/or breast cancer.

Additionally, for those organizations that plan on submitting a grant, it is strongly encouraged they attend a grant-writing workshop on Wednesday, October 21.  The workshop will be held from 8:30 11:30 a.m. at Wells Fargo Advisors Learning Center.

Organizations applying for a grant from the Affiliate must provide services in the Komen St. Louis service area, which includes St. Louis city, St. Louis County, and Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln, Madison, Montgomery, Perry, Ste. Genevieve, St. Charles, St. Francois, Warren and Washington Counties in Missouri, and the Illinois counties of Clinton, Madison, Monroe, and St. Clair.

Komen St. Louis Affiliate is proud to have invested more than $16 million to date in the fight against breast cancer.  With $11 million staying in St. Louis to fund screening, treatment, education and research programs, the remaining $5 million has gone to the national Susan G. Komen for the CureŽ Grants Program to fund cutting-edge research.

For further information and to RSVP to the grant-writing workshop, contact Jeremy Patch (jpatch@komenstlouis.org), Director of Grants and Mission Initiatives at the Komen St. Louis Affiliate (314-569-3900).

About Susan G. Komen for the CureŽ and the Komen St. Louis Affiliate
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. The St. Louis Affiliate of Komen for the Cure is working to better the lives of those facing breast cancer in the local community joining more than 1 million breast cancer survivors and activists around the globe as part of the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting breast cancer. Through events like the Komen St. Louis Race for the CureŽ, the St. Louis Affiliate has invested over $11 million in community breast health programs in 17 counties in the Eastern Missouri and Southwestern Illinois region. Up to 75 percent of net proceeds generated by the Affiliate stays in the St. Louis area. The remaining income goes to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program to fund research.
