Komen St. Louis will host our 5th annual Power of a Promise luncheon, presented by Peabody Energy, on Sunday, May 4, 2014. Join us for an afternoon of celebration, inspiration and education for more than 400 breast cancer survivors and 100 representatives from local community partners (grantees) and corporate sponsors in the St. Louis area. The event will include a vendor expo, raffle baskets, live music, luncheon, the granting of community partner funding for 2014-2015, and a special candlelight ceremony to remember those who have lost their battle to breast cancer and honor those who are still fighting.

The event begins at 11 a.m. with an hour to bid on raffle baskets and shop vendor booths. The luncheon and program will begin at noon and last until 2 p.m.

Entering his sixth season in the NFL and his second as a St. Louis Ram, Jared Cook is one of the most dynamic tight ends in the game, known for his size and receiving skills. Since joining the St. Louis Rams, Jared Cook has made it a priority to give back to the St. Louis community and people in need. The work that has been closest to his heart is his work with Breast Cancer Awareness and Susan G. Komen®.

In 2008, Yulinda Cook faced an unexpected battle with breast cancer. Her son’s accomplishments, along with a special treatment known as Herceptin, helped Yulinda fight through the pain. By 2010 Jared had completed his first year in the NFL and Yulinda was completely cancer free. Now Yulinda relishes in serving as inspiration for fellow survivors and ladies afflicted with the disease.

Ever since his mother battled the disease, Jared has dedicated his time to spreading awareness and helping raise money for cancer research. Last summer he served as an honorary team captain for the St. Louis Rams team at the Race for the Cure. Standing with his mother, they shared their story with a crowd of 40,000 survivors, their friends, family and supporters during the opening ceremonies. They later helped give out roses to survivors as they crossed the finish line.

Power of a Promise Luncheon Vendor applications are now being accepted. Deadline is April 14, 2014. Applications can be scanned and emailed to ewarrick@komenstlouis.org. Self-parking is available at the Chase Park Plaza Garage on Maryland Avenue at a special event rate of $5 per car (the garage is attached to the Chase). Once inside the Chase from the garage, follow the hallway to the event area in Regency/Khorassan West. Valet parking is available at the Kingshighway Boulevard entrance at a special event rate of $13 per car. Attendees are responsible for all charges.

If any attendees need to be dropped off closer to the Ballroom, please do so on Lindell Boulvard near the movie marquee and enter through the side door.
